This 3-layer fabric features a durable, 100% recycled polyamide outer and a tightly woven design that prevents water absorption, ensuring lightweight and dry performance.

Enhanced with patented Gore Micro Grid Backer technology and solution dyeing, the lining protects the membrane from abrasion and offers easy movement.

The low denier backer remains breathable and robust, resulting in a Bluesign Approved product that guarantees optimal breathability and complete waterproof protection.

Coming in at a whopping 30K, BR2 Performance delivers hardcore waterproof protection with fully taped seams. The fabric is still exceptionally breathable and durable, ideal for mid-length offshore sailing voyages.

A PFC free long-lasting durable water repellent coating (LDWR) finishes off the fabric for additional shielding from the elements.

GORE-TEX fabric supplies the ultimate weather protection. Durably waterproof, windproof and supremely breathable: this technology lets you stay outdoors for longer.

The GORE-TEX fabric membrane is sandwiched between the outer shell fabric and an inner liner. Microscopic pores cover the membrane.

These are 20,000 times smaller than a water droplet, but 700 times larger than a water vapour molecule. This makes the membrane impermeable to moisture yet breathable so moisture from skin escapes easily.

The result: you stay warmer when it's cold and drier when active.

Resilient and comfortable, three-layer fabrics offer durable weather protection balanced by high breathability levels. If you’re looking for wet weather protection that will keep you dry in torrential downpours, opt for a three-layer hard shell jacket.

Three-layer shells consist of:

• An internal, friction-reducing layer that protects the membrane from abrasion and moisture from the skin
• A technical membrane that offers waterproof and breathable qualities
• An external face fabric made of durable and protective nylon or polyester

To make something truly impermeable to water, holes need to be eliminated. This means waterproof garments have to be made in a way that doesn’t involve needle stitching. Seam taping is an exceptionally effective method of making a technical piece of outerwear watertight.

By using strong nylon cloth with a fine but resilient rubber backer, the stitching between the sleeves and the main body can be sealed against water permeation. Taped seams are a key indicator of a heavy duty waterproof garment.

This soft shell Schoeller® fabric provides you with durability and 4-way stretch. This fabric also offers breathable, wind and water-resistant technical apparel that is comfortable to wear.

At night, it often feels like you are sailing blind. Photoluminescent reflectors were innovated for the Musto offshore sailing kit in the Volvo Ocean Race in 2011-12. These reflectos capture the energy of light sources during the day and release that energy as a glow during the night.

Kevlar is an incredibly durable and strong material that is widely used to protect against impact and penetration. Described as being, “five times stronger than steel on an equal weight basis”, Musto uses it to reinforce garments to ensure heightened resilience against wear.

Kevlar® is an example of an aromatic polyamide, or aramid, for short. This is because it is a man-made material with a strong, circular molecular construction that connect together to form long chains. It is this molecular-level strength that lends Kevlar the durability that it is famous for.

Originally designed for the US military, PrimaLoft® insulation is permanently water-resistant. It retains its insulating and lightweight properties for warmth and comfort, even when wet. This is the best synthetic insulation available. It has thermal efficiency equal to goose down and unmatched breathability to keep you ventilated in the most challenging of climates.

PrimaLoft® insulation uses special fibres to trap heat leaving the body in a collection of air pockets. When other fabrics get wet the air pockets will disappear along with the insulating capabilities. PrimaLoft® was designed to be water-resistant however, allowing the air pockets to survive and retain their insulation.

POLARTEC® is a soft, breathable fabric that delivers warmth without the weight. The high loft of the fibres traps warm air for effective insulation outdoors. Hydrophobic Polartec® fibres repel water for quicker drying times. This ensures greater warmth and comfort.
